Water stations put out yellow/light brown water. No thanks.
Very quiet. We went for July 4th 2014 and Black Canyon was full as well as Crawford State Park. Cimarron Campground was the only realistic option for the night and we just hoped something would be available. It was a campground with about 20-25 sites and only 3 or 4 were taken.
I'd use it again if needed, but only for a single night. I'd never use this campground again if I needed something for several days.
We spent a night here in July 2016 and for $16 it's a good deal. Site #21 great for a tent. I'm used to camping without amenities so this is great! Bathroom and fire pit provided.
CONS: One of the 3 or 4 sites that were taken was occupied by an old beat up Pontiac Grand Am. It was absolutely packed to the roof full of trash and it's pilot was a crazy black lady that was having an argument with herself. No tent or gear in sight and it appeared she was living out of her car. We paid for a site far away from her (#11 - best site) but waited until later that evening to set everything up, for fear she might steal it all. We asked another camper to keep an eye out while were gone. We returned a few hours later and she was gone. Whew.
The campgrounds and bathrooms were clean. The train display was awesome. We went during the week and there was only one other group there (besides the host). The host was friendly. The water is brownish colored. There are no tent pads but there were spots for tents. It was mid July with afternoon temps in the 90s and it was in the 30s in the morning.
PROS:
I camp a lot. I really enjoy the state/national park systems. While I also enjoy clean facilities as much as the next person, I also understand that the park facilities aren't cleaned every hour like a restaurant, so I don't expect perfection. This campground needed some TLC though.
Nice for RV's but not too tent friendly. The grass was really long and only cut around the fire pit and picnic tables. The sites really has no "groomed" areas for a tent to be placed. The one or two that did were occupied. We grabbed site #11 on the edge of the campground and it had a huge lawn area that had all been cut, so we pitched a tent out there. Turned out very nice.
Never saw the host. Our ticket/receipt was still on our site post when we left at 10 the next morning. No one had come by yet.
OVERALL:
No showers or anything else. Just campgrounds and bathrooms.
When we left, the aforementioned crazy lady living in her car was parked at the front of the campground. I guess she'd been there all night. :/
$12/night.
Bathroom was NOT clean. It was usable in a pinch, but you'd wait until later for a #2 if you were able. The floors looked like they were looooong overdue for a mopping. Everything needed a good cleaning. Seriously, for a campground with this little traffic, it should have been really clean. There were two sinks but only one worked. The yellow/brown water made itself known in the urinals and toilets as well. Didn't help the situation.
